Gehard Demetz

Demetz works primarily in wood, portraying children on a monumental scale, elevated on platforms and pedestals. Unlike the romanticized view of childhood as a time of innocence, Demetz’s children are powerful figures—knowing, self-aware and bold.

“My sculptures shall be children who appear adultly. They are aware of their existence. The consciousness what has been assigned on them and what expect them in the future.” (Hi-Fructose, Vol. 22)
